Continuous Tense

* Pay attention on this example situation:

** James is in his  car. He  is on his  car to work. He  is driving to work. I mean, he is driving now, at the time of speaking. The action is not finished.

AM/ARE/IS + verb + ing = present continuous

* drive = I am driving
* work = Henri  is working
* travel = They are travelling again.

## I am doing something = I'm in the middle of doing something; I've started doing it and I haven't finished it yet.
** Eu estou fazendo algo = Eu estou no momento fazendo algo. Eu comecei a fazer e ainda não terminei.

* Often the action is happening at the time of speaking. = Geralmente a ação acontece no momento da fala.

a) Please don't make so much noise. I'm working on a project. ( don't use " I work on a project")
** Por favor , não faça tanto barulho. Estou trabalhando em um projeto. ( não use " Eu trabalho em um projeto")

b) Where's your sister? " She is having a bath. ( not " She has a bath)
** Onde está sua irmã? " Ela está tomando banho. ( não diga " Ela toma banho")

c) Let's go out now. It isn't raining anymore. ( no " it doesn't rain").
** Vamos sair agora. Não está mais chovendo. ( Não use " não chove ").

d) Are you enjoying the party? ( no " Do you enjoy")
** Você está curtindo a festa? ( Não use : " Você curte")

e) I'm tired. I'm going to bed now.
** Estou cansado. Vou dormir agora.

## Sometimes the action is not happening at the time of speaking:

** Ana and Cris are talking in a snack bar. Ana says:
** Ana e Cris estão conversando em uma lanchonete. Ana  diz:


" I'm taking an interesting Private English Course at JB's  . I'll take you there next time I go. "
 
" Estou fazendo um curso interessante de inglês na casa do JB . Eu te levarei lá da próxima vez que eu for. 


** Ana is not at JB's at the time of speaking. She  means that she  is taking it because she began to study at JB's but she hasn't  finished the course yet. She is in the middle of studying it.I mean, taking it.

** Ana não está na casa do JB no momento em que fala. Ela quer dizer que está fazendo o curso, porque ela começou a estudar porém, não concluiu o curso ainda. Ela está em meio ao curso. ou seja, fazendo.

** Some more examples:

a) Lucas wants to work in Canada, so he is learning English.
* ( but probably , at the time of speaking, he isn't learning English.)


** Lucas quer trabalhar no Canadá, então ele está aprendendo Inglês.
* ( mas provavelmente, no momento da fala, ele não esteja aprendendo inglês)

b) Some friends of mine are working in the USA.

* ( depending on time zone , perhaps they aren't working right now, but they are there, they work there.)
** Alguns amigos meus estão trabalhando nos Estados Unidos.

** ( Dependendo do fuso horário, talvez eles não estejam trabalhando nesse momento, mas eles estão lá, eles trabalham lá)

* He hopes it will be finished before next summer.

** Meu chefe está construindo o novo escritório dele.

* Ele espera que o escritório esteja concluído no próximo verão.

*** We use the present continuous when we talk about things happening in a period around now.( today/this week/this evening/some hours,minutes ago)

*** Nós usamos o presente continuado quando falamos sobre coisas que estão acontecendo em um período recente. ( hoje,essa semana, hoje a noite,algumas horas atrás, alguns minutos atrás.)

* What is the correct way to say it?
* Qual é a maneira correta de dizer ?

a) You work hard today.
b) You're working hard today.

b) Is J.B. working this week?
.......................................

*** We also use the present continous when we talk about changes happening around now.
*** Nós sempre usamos o presente continuado quando falamos de mudanças que estão acontecendo agora.. .
**

a) Unfortunately this horrible ebola is spreading very fast and it is taking thousand and thousand of lives away in Africa.
* Infelizmente essa terrível ebola está se espalhando muito rápido e está tirando milhares e milhares de vidas na Africa.
